Destined to be the chain’s Flagship Hotel in the city, the new Barceló Emperatriz has been designed using a pioneering co-creation process in which the hotel’s future guests have been given the chance to decide on a range of elements, from its services to some decorative elements. Located in a beautifully refurbished 19th century building right in the historic centre of Madrid and with 146 rooms, the Barceló Emperatriz has managed to merge aesthetic and emotional concepts to express the cosmopolitan intellectual nature of the figure which has inspired the hotel: Empress Eugénie de Montijo. A unique conceptual hotel which preserves the palatial feel of the 19th century through classic elements which have been combined with other avant-garde ones, resulting in an understated and elegant design. Ceilings with typical 19th century mouldings and coffers, combined with noble materials such as marble, wood and metal used as the leitmotif for modernising the interior decoration. Guests will also come across ad hoc pieces which reminisce the neoclassical style, intermingled with conceptual modern facilities and sculptures. Hence, the foyer houses the ‘Cielo de Violetas’ (Sky of Violets) which welcomes

the guests and recalls the Empress’s favourite flowers, which accompanied her throughout the sweetest and most bitter times of her life. In the gastronomic section, Mutis Restaurant, of vegetable inspiration as an ecological wink to its menu, named after the botanist Celestino Mutis, will surprise everyone due to its spectacular decoration using floral panels which has led to it being referred to as the palace garden. Within the restaurant, guests and visitors can savour Healthy Gourmet menus amidst a cosy relaxed ambience. The 146 luxurious rooms within the Barceló Emperatriz hotel have been designed following the B-Room concept, Barceló’s highest quality standard, fully equipped and decorated using avant-garde furnishings which come in contrast with classic elements, such as their quilted armchairs.  Guests will also find latest technology items, such as a Mini Media Hub connectivity panel, which connects the television in the room with a mobile phone, tablet or laptop via a USB or Bluetooth connection. Last but not least, the bathroom, an oasis of comfort that includes Premium amenities and accessories such as hair straighteners.
