Dieter Morszeck is an avid aviator, but he is the CEO of Rimowa too, the brand that produces the iconic suitcases with the groove. Putting together his two passions in life, then one day he gathered us in Dubendorf, near Zurich, to climb aboard his new airplane jewel. And to talk about his new business. As Morszeck now sells airplanes too, vintage aircraft. And especially one: the Junckers F13. In Zurich, in short, it was staged the perfect marriage between history and future. Because after seven years of work and study, it is back to life the first commercial aluminum aircraft built in 1919. The same material – lightweight and durable – that gave the idea to Morszeck family, eighteen years later, to create Rimowa suitcases brand, that will become
immortal. They are made by polycarbonate too but above all they are now intelligent. In practice, the launch of models with electronic tags – ie the system that allows you to check luggage in by smartphone and deposit it on the tape already with the band with the target data electronically printed – was a festival between two centuries. With aluminum and those particular grooves, icons of a virtually immortal design. And while Morszeck flew over our heads, it occurred to me that after all the beauty of a passion is to know how to get farther and farther away. Better still with an air of 1919 that made the story of what we are today.
