The experimental Cave Mont Blanc winery, housed in one of the three stations of Skyway Monte Bianco, produces sparkling wine at 2173 meters above sea level.
Defined the eighth wonder of the world, Skyway Monte Bianco is a true masterpiece of Italian technology and engineering that offers unique travel experiences of its kind. Inaugurated in Courmayeur in June 2015, the new cable cars provoke the speed of the access door to the top of the roof of Europe and the majesty of its glaciers, the starting point of alpine and off-piste routes linking the Valle d’Aosta with France and Switzerland. The 4 semi-spherical cabins rotate gently 360° throughout the climb, a unique view of the Giant of Europe and the surrounding peaks of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso and accompanying visitors to the last station, at an altitude 3466 meters, in just 15 minutes. Skyway Monte Bianco connects the three stations of Courmayeur (1300 meters), Pavillon du Mont Fréty (2200 meters) – inside which there is also the experimental cave Mont Blanc, while in the outer part there is the Saussurea Botanical Garden – and finally Punta Helbronner with its Skywow, a new engineering work composed of two staircases and a glass piano that gives the illusion of seeing the mountain open underfoot.
Sparkling wine at 2173 meters above sea level
After 30 years of experience in the production of classic method sparkling wine in Valle d’Aosta, in the last 10 years the Cave Mont Blanc has engaged in experimentation and production of high-altitude sparkling wine in collaboration with the company of the Courmayeur Guides. It was July 2009, the 20th, when the first bottle of Blanc de Morgex and La Salle Classic Method Extrabrut “Cuvée des Guides” – a name that pays homage to the mountain and its guides – was popped to the summit of Mont Blanc. The Prié Blanc, the only autochthonous vine of the Valle d’Aosta with a white and frank-white berry, finds its natural interpreter in the Cave Mont Blanc and in the sparkling wine Classic Method one of its best impressions. The production of the Cuvée des Guides continues its journey with the Mont Blanc cable cars at the Pavillon altitude of 2173 m. with an annual production of 100 magnums.
