After an important renovation, COMO Cocoa Island, the award-winning resort signed COMO Hotels and Resort in the Maldives, reopened in early January.
The iconic COMO Cocoa Island resort located in the South Male atoll, 40 minutes by speedboat from the airport, promises simplicity, well-being and balance as the fundamental pillars of the new luxury. “The Maldives have become a very competitive market – explains Olivier Jolivet, CEO of the COMO Group – and the luxury hotel companies continue to raise the stakes. Sometimes we forget that nature is powerful and that simplicity plays a very important role in modern luxury. Cocoa Island is a jewel in our Group’s portfolio: it has a unique soul, which we are committed to combining with the grace and passion of our staff “. The renovation just ended wants to emphasize this natural elegance of the island, giving guests more space and time to devote themselves to their well-being. A third of the island is in fact occupied by the SPA COMO Shambhala Retreat and the different structures are well distributed to give a greater sense of privacy and quiet, with hammocks and swings hanging from the trees. There are only 4 treatment rooms, two of which have been expanded to accommodate couples. The size but also the position of the cabins between the palm trees not only offer a deep sense of comfort but also allow therapists to practice the wellness programs for one day and half a day without the guest having to
change the cabin. A new Pilates study has also been added. The Yoga studio, which is located on an elevated position with a 360 degree view of the lagoon, is open on one side to allow the sea breeze to enter. The hydrotherapy pool is one of the best equipped in the Maldives and it is used for water treatments, including joint massages and low impact exercises. Only 34 Overwater Villas, all renovated in style and design thanks to the intervention of the Singapore Lekker Studio. Natural materials have been used in the new resort: kajan roofs, local Maldivian stone walls and wood. The clean and essential lines allow the creation of meditation spaces where you can relax, sleep and rest. Some rooms have a swimming pool, all have platforms from which to enter directly into the sea. To complete the wellness experience, COMO Shambhala Cuisine is available on the menus, for those who want to try vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free but rich in flavors and nutritional values, ideal for different dietary regimes. COMO Shambhala juices, tea and infusions are available in the rooms. In the resort it is also possible to eat at the Ufaa restaurant, which offers Mediterranean, Indian and Maldivian cuisine with excellent local fish. For the sportiest, there is no shortage of activities on the island thanks to the PADI certified diving center. These include reef diving, exploration of wrecks, night dives and excursions to see whale sharks, as well as shore activities such as kayaking, sup and snorkeling.
