A job done with love and dedication that of Rene Berns, a Ford engineer who thought about the safety and comfort of his Australian Shepherd Emil in designing the new Ford Focus Wagon. Moreover, a new study conducted by Ford has shown that 1 driver on 3 that owns a dog does not transport it safely, with the danger that the view is obstructed by the animal in motion. Furthermore, in the event of an accident, unrelated dogs can be thrown into the car, increasing the possibility of injury for themselves, the driver and passengers. Yet for many people dogs are an integral part of their family and so, as you would never allow your children to travel without a belt and protections, the same must apply to our pets. During the tests, Rene Berns enlisted Emil to ensure that the box to be placed in the trunk of the new Focus Wagon was as large as possible and could comfortably carry even an Irish Wolfhound, the highest breed of dog. Together with his Cologne-based team, Rene helped maximize the space inside the luggage rack by compressing the foam layer of the roof lining, changing the length of the screws and reshaping the boot opening. “I know how much it means for me to be able to bring Emil wherever I go – explained the Ford engineer – and I’m proud to have helped make it easier for other dog owners and their pets to travel safer and more comfortably”. The new Focus Wagon is on sale throughout Europe in a complete range that includes Focus Business, ST-Line and Vignale, as well as the first Focus Active crossover version.
