All ready for the latest, eagerly awaited work of the famous Bulgarian artist Christo, The Floating Piers, in Franciacorta from 18 June to 3 July. It consists of a spectacular walkway across the water, composed of 200,000 floating cubes of Styrofoam covered by about 70,000 meters of day-glo yellow fabric. The walkway is 16 meters wide and extends across the lake for 3 kilometers, from Sulzano to Monte Isola, and then circles the island of San Paolo. In connection with the installation, Franciacorta will present two weeks chock-full of events in the area’s towns and, of course, the Franciacorta cellars. Music, happenings, exhibits and tastings, in a crescendo that will reach its apex during the weekend of 25-26 June, with the Franciacorta Summer Festival. It promises to be a huge party, whose leading players, wines and local products, winemakers and chefs, will collaborate in exalting this extraordinary area.
Saturday 25 June, will be devoted to presenting the territory, its wines, foods and other typical products. The wine cellars will organize themed mini events, featuring guided tours and tastings while distilleries and producers of typical local specialties will also be open to the public, their secrets on display. Saturday night there will be a great celebration everywhere in the area, with all the restaurants, taverns and country bed and breakfasts associated with the Strada del Franciacorta participating, each with a special menu based on the local food and wine culture. Their creations, which will be accompanied by the various types of Franciacorta wines, will feature the typical products of the area, sometimes very hard to find elsewhere. Sunday 26 June, everyone is invited to visit the historic Palazzo Monti della Corte di Nigoline, one of the most striking aristocratic manor houses in Franciacorta: the lawns of its
centuries-old grounds and ancient orchard will be the venue for a great open-air party with Street Food made with local ingredients. A tasting bar will be set up, where over 60 local wineries will offer tastings of various types of wines, while the street food will be created by the chefs of the most famous restaurants here, who will devote their talents to the creative promotion of local specialties, resulting in one-of-a-kind Street Food delicacies. Among them will be Lorenzo Cogo, of El Coq in Marano Vicentino, the youngest chef in Italy to have earned a star. There will also be areas reserved for barbeque and food trucks. All the guests will be given a cloth to lay on the lawn and relax on during this refined Pic Nic. After 6 p.m., the mood changes, with a cocktail aperitif and the final fling: a DJ set, with a single, long tasting counter featuring Franciacorta wines, which will accompany an aperitif exalting the classic local products and barbeque.
