COMO Hotels and Resorts, with properties from Miami Beach to Bhutan, opens its fourteenth property: a new oceanside resort in Bali, COMO Uma Canggu
COMO Hotels and Resorts announces the opening of COMO Uma Canggu. This oceanside resort on Bali’s south coast injects a new spirit of adventure and discovery into our Indonesian offering, where we currently own and operate COMO Uma Ubud, an intimate resort an hour’s drive north of Canggu, and COMO Shambhala Estate, a wellness resort located on the jungle-fringed Ayung River nearby. At COMO Uma Ubud, the emphasis is on outdoor experiences and cultural encounters, from rice-paddy hikes to temple visits, designed to enrich and inspire quality of life. At COMO Uma Canggu, the same guest will find a different pairing, with activity focused around the beach and sea, and culture around Canggu’s village life with its Hindu shrines, shops and local warungs. Canggu is a pretty coastal settlement backing a six-mile-long beach lapped by the Indian Ocean. It has retained its authentic Indonesian character where other coastal strips have lost their identity to international tourism. Canggu still has rice paddies as part of its landscape, as well as some of Bali’s best surf breaks directly in front of the resort. COMO Uma Canggu might just be seven miles from the bustle of Seminyak, but it feels a world apart, with an authentic emphasis on active living, healthy eating, and good times with family and friends. The resort, which occupies 2.2 acres of ground, has been designed to COMO’s highest principles of sophisticated living, with 119 contemporary rooms, suites, one- and two-bedroom residences, as well as three-bedroom duplex
penthouses featuring individual rooftop pools. The aesthetic breaks new ground for beachside Bali, combining modern Asian and Italian touches created by interior designers Koichiro Ikebuchi and Paola Navone. World-class dining will be available at the social heart of the resort, COMO Beach Club. Menus will rely on locally sourced ingredients from across the island, with a focus on ‘New World cuisine’. A charcoal grill, used for meat, seafood and vegetables, will impart rich, smoky flavours. Healthy and energising COMO Shambhala Cuisine will also be available here. Those seeking wellness will be catered for at the new COMO Shambhala Retreat, with seven treatments rooms (five single and two double). As well as Asian-inspired therapies – including our signature COMO Shambhala Massage – there will be yoga and Pilates classes available for hotel guests and the local community, as well as personal training in the gym. A major aspect of COMO Uma Canggu will be the spectacular surf opportunities. Our luxury surfing concept, in partnership with Tropicsurf, will appeal to beginners and also those with experience. Veteran surfers will be satisfied with the large waves found to the right of COMO Uma Canggu, while novices can learn the foundations under an expert eye on calmer rides. Away from the waves, COMO Uma Canggu will offer guests a range of cultural and adventure activities across southern and central Bali, including guided temple visits by the sea, jungle trekking, canoeing expeditions and traditional village walks.
