Christmas trip
Colorful lights that decorate houses, squares and streets, Christmas songs, the scents of typical dishes and traditional Christmas Markets are the main ingredients of the Feasts in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. In the capital, until December, the 24th, the traditional markets, with their wooden chalets, transform the whole city into a great Christmas village and offer all kinds of products: crafts, clothes, shoes, bags and accessories, but also delicacies from typical food and drinks such as Glühwäin (mulled wine) and typical foods such as the Grillinger, the Mettwurscht (Luxembourg sausages) or the Gromperekichelcher (potato pancakes). But during the holiday season, Luxembourg offers lots of other attractions for everyone. Until January, the 5th, 2020 it will be possible to admire the spectacular decorations of Winterlights, the festival of Christmas illuminations, with as many as 20,000 lights that will adorn 220 trees along the historic center of the Capital. On the Place de la Constitution a large 32 meter high Ferris wheel will be erected, from which it will be possible to admire the suggestive view of the city illuminated from above. Then, right in the center, there is the ice skating rink. In the picturesque village of Dudelange (Red Rock Region), attractions include Medieval Christmas markets (December, the 6th to the 15th), daily concerts and entertainment in the narrow streets of the village, all with a medieval theme. But the oldest market in Luxembourg is that of Echternach (Müllerthal Region), whch on December, the 13th to the 15th, welcomes more than 80 exhibitors and local artisans who accompany visitors through a suggestive route that winds along the streets of this characteristic medieval town.
