The new Chimay 150 is a clear and character beer that joins the permanent assortment of the brewery and offering the starting point for an unprecedented hiking trail.
Starting from June, the 1st, all beer lovers will have the opportunity to discover the elegance of an exceptional Trappist beer, for whose production Chimay brewery used two hops known for their finesse, Saaz and Hallertau Mittelfrüh , adding a secret spice that gives a truly unique taste. At first glance, the Chimay 150 appears in a pale gold color, adorned with a white and compact foam. This clear and strong beer (10% vol.) offers harmony and balance on the palate with its delicate flavors: notes of rosemary and cloves are wonderfully combined with thin floral touches, rapvivified by a pinch of invigorating ginger. Its round and soft body, its slightly smoked and spicy taste, characteristic of the Chimay beers, leave the palate with a wonderfully refined aftertaste. Chimay 150 is the result of the experience of real brewers, which followed itself from 150 years inside the Chimay brewery under control of the monastic community. In 2012, to celebrate the first hundred and fifty years of the legendary brewery, the Chimay 150 was produced for the first time in a limited edition (only 150,000 bottles). Chimay has decided to permanently enter this exceptional beer in its assortment. The bottle will have the green cap and the green label, and will then go side by side to the famous Chimay Dorée, Chimay Red Cap (Rouge), Chimay White Cap (Triple) and the Chimay Cap Blue (great rèserve). But Chimay is much more than beer and cheese: the surroundings of the Chimay Abbey – Abbey of Notre-Dame de Scourmont – are a natural scenario to visit if you cross the Belgian region of Wallonia. For the presentation of this new beer, a hiking journey in the colors of Chimay 150 was set up from the Auberge de Poteaupré. Accessible all year round, this 10 km ring in the surrounding woods echoes the 10 degrees of beer. Initially in a 33 cl bottle, during 2021 it will also be bottled in the traditional 75 cl format with cork cap. Finally, a curiosity that not everyone knows: the Trappist logo certifies that beer is produced inside the abbey itself under the supervision of the monks and that most of the revenue is destined for social works.
